During my internship at YMCA Crewe, I developed a custom accessibility plugin aimed at enhancing the website's usability for individuals with visual and cognitive impairments. The plugin includes features such as adjustable text size, high-contrast mode, dyslexia-friendly fonts, and keyboard navigation support. I designed it to integrate seamlessly with the existing site, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. The project involved front-end development using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, as well as user testing with assistive technologies. This initiative significantly improved the site’s inclusivity and user engagement, and provided YMCA Crewe with a sustainable, user-centered accessibility solution.
